The third book in The Amazing Adventures of Toby the Trilby series is more than half written, and again I will be tackling a difficult subject, addiction. Some parents feel a red flag go up when they hear a book has substance abuse featured, but I promise this book will not glorify drugs or make them seem 'cool.' In fact, the substance is something I made up for the book, and every instance of use is painted in a negative light.
The simple truth is that substance abuse is a painful part of many children's lives. If they are not taking drugs themselves, it is likely they are surrounded by people who are. A parent who is an alcoholic, a sibling who is addicted to drugs. Or this addiction we have to computers, iPhones and television sets. Or parents and siblings who cannot function mentally without legal, mind-altering drugs.
However they are affected, children find themselves left behind as their love ones pursue the addiction.
I wanted to write a book for these kids, and for everyone else to understand what they deal with. A story that spoke of hope, and how we can never stop praying and hoping for people with addiction because we have something more powerful than medical charts and statistics on our side; a loving Father who never gives up on us and who hold healing in His hands.
I'm hoping to have the next Toby book finished by Christmas, we shall see!
