Several years ago, a family friend (and very anointed evangelist) Bill Vanderbush came to speak in Bastrop.
It was an extremely difficult time of my life where I was in a desperate place. I felt extremely worthless and unloved.
Bill spoke about the treasure inside of each of us and how precious we are to God. How God will not rest until that treasure is uncovered in each of our hearts. And how, when we interact with people, we must exert every effort we can to find the gold God sees in their hearts as well.
For me, this was a new concept. Instead of judging people or worrying about their flaws look for the treasure they have inside of them. Perhaps the grouchy lady in front of me at the grocery store was up caring for her sick mother all night. Maybe the waitress who forgot my drink refill is working three jobs to provide for her children. We don't know. When I started looking at other people differently, I began to also see the worth in myself.
In my book, Toby meets people of all ages and walks of life. Some are dangerous, some become friends. But all have gold, hidden deep within them. Because God has imparted some to each of us.
